Maybe this cautious note can be sent back in time to those who jeered Professor John Beard in 1902.

John showed that cancer is a normal system of cells produced after conception but no longer in use so they just hang around until something comes along. When an inherited mutant gene is embound in a cell a carcinogen is often activated and tumour cells rapidly develop. However the body has a natural cancer protection system using a protein called trypsin* which devours the thick tumour cell walls.

As we age there is less pancreatic trypsin available so this neat mechanism lags behind and fails us.

John Beard's work has been validated quite recently by scientists at Stanford University, California, led by Professor Michael F. Clarke. He demonstrated that cancer stem cells (CSCs) attached to various organs do not respond readily to chemotherapy so when the ordinary cancer cells are diminished resulting from chemo and ionised radiation therapies, the CSCs just proliferate   This relapse going on undetected during an apparent remission, according to the CT scan, is called metastasis. The CSCs migrate to other organs via the blood and lymphatic circulatory vessels and diffusion.    The aim is to contain this activity so that the body's systems are not compromised.

"Delivery from Cancer" is a comprehensive essay written without too much technical matter so that the narrative can be followed and readily understood. Michael doesn't dwell on specific types of cancer but goes deeper and describes a common enzyme found in every cancer cell including the CSCs. This enzyme was discovered by Professor Bill Greenlee at Massachusetts University in 1997. In the same year Professors Graeme Murray and Dan Burke's teams at Aberdeen University discovered that this enzyme called CYP1B1, sip one bee one, only exists in cancer cells. How could this amazing discovery be used?

Professor Gerry Potter at De Montfort University, Leicester then became involved and deduced that something was missing. Prior to the industrial revolution cancer was rare. With the rapid advent of fungicides and bactericides plants did not have to protect themselves against fungal and bacterial attack. The natural protection was resveratrol. This detective story tells how this colouring molecule in organic red and dark fruit, was discovered and harnessed. When eaten it contributes to good health. When absorbed by cancerous cells the colouring molecule called methoxylated resveratrol (m-res) is metabolised by the sip one bee one into, yes! You've guessed ... into piceatannol ! This regained natural substance** destroys cancer cells just as in earlier centuries. The dietary process is slow but effective. It has now been shown that m-res can last for up to four or five hours in the plasma, enough time between meals to keep working. Danny enthusiastically suggests, "We are now way beyond the usefulness of antioxidants !"

Doctors may wish to give this discussion book to their patients so they can appreciate and choose how to manage the various outcomes arising from cancer growth. It is a two-hour illustrated "learning" study.  It is well explained so that the reader can be heartened and comfortably follow the "detective story".

Is there ever enough time for doctor / patient discussion, much as they both would like to?  Many patients having read the book, have said they felt well-imbibed, more confident and better able to face choice in a more phlegmatic way.  With cancer in the family history people will benefit from early-learning on how to manage likelihood-cancer through phytology.   Cancer Phytotherapy when trialing the work as The ResQ Club originally set out to stem unwanted mitosis development long before diagnosis, if it was to become inevitable at all, and put in place counter-measures. This is still their aim in the strategy against the scourge of cancer in society. Early days yet but the CPS team know that they have arrived !!!

Happy footnote:  Environmental carcinogens such as benzpyrene from idling petrol engine exhausts and tobacco smoke precipitate the formation of more CYP1B1 enzyme in the cell which is becoming or has become cancerous.

Professor David Sinclair, Harvard Medical School, offers an insight into pre-dementia, vascular dementia, pre-neuro-degenerative conditions, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, diabetes Type 2, metabolic enlivenment and calorie-restriction all based on  m-res.    The recent  work on identifying mis-folding proteins leading to tau (tangles) formation and amyloid plaques and knowing how the sirtuin enzymes help combat the situation utilising m-res is quite a story in itself.

**US Patent Application published 2nd April 2010, No. 20100028262 - DMU-212.  Two metabolites are formed. The first is 3'-hydroxy + DMU-212 which inhibits tyrosine kinase, which is halting useless glycolysis avoiding unwanted cell growth. The second is 4-desmeth + DMU-212 which ensures apoptosis.
